Race Rules and Policies
1) Do not litter, vandalize or otherwise disturb the area, people or property around you. If you get caught doing anything of the sort you will be immediately disqualified from the race, no exceptions and no refunds.
2) Strollers are allowed on course as well as the participation of minors (see minor waiver form). Any child who is strolled is allowed to participate in the event free of charge. Any minor who wants to run or participate in any of the races must have their parent/guardian sign the waiver in order to participate. Again, see minor waiver form for more details.
3) Respect all exhibitions of Native traditional culture and treat them with respect and dignity. Always ask questions if unsure about anything.
4) Dogs and or any other pets are not allowed.
5) In the interest of fairness and integrity, no mid-race drops to a lower “distance” or “time” are allowed. If you are registered for the 24hr race and decide at hour 11 that you want to drop down to the 12hr, you will not be required to keep running but you will be officially recorded as a 24hr race participant and not a 12hr participant. This is to make sure that runners know exactly who they are running against at the start of the day and that this doesn’t change without them knowing and also to ensure that podiums are not changed after the race is over. No mid-race upgrades are allowed for similar reasons. If you get 100 miles in 24 hours you will still be entitled to a buckle. If you are in the 24 hour race and you reach mile 96 then you will have 96 miles in 24 hours. As of 2026 you will no longer be allowed to upgrade to the 100 mile in the middle of the race. You are allowed to change your race up until the date of the official online registration close. Send in an email if you wish to do this redroadracinginfo@gmail.com.
6) Race day sign-ups (which include any and all registrations after official close of registration) may be allowed, however the results will be marked as unofficial in the spirit of rule #5.
7) No partial laps. This means that only 2 mile laps will be counted and in the event of time running out, your most recently completed loop will be used to count your total mileage.
8) Race bibs should be visibly worn on front of person and, if necessary, verbally communicated to race officials upon coming into checkpoints. Pacers will be required to wear bibs labeled “Pacer” so that race officials can distinguish between racers and pacers. This rule is MANDATORY and it is the responsibility of racers to ensure that they as well as their pacers wear their bibs visibly on their front. If a runner has to be repeatedly reminded of this rule (3 times or more) then they face disqualification from the race.
9) Race food is meant for registered runners only. Starting in 2026 we will implement a “CRU wristband” for purchase that will allow crew, friends and family the ability to have access to food that is otherwise only made available to runners. It is the responsibility of the racer to ensure that their guests understand this rule. If a crew member is found eating food when they do not have on a wristband, then their runner will face a penalty of doing one extra lap after they finish their goal (but they won’t be told until they get done). Just making sure you’re reading the rules, that was a joke. There might also be other foods available for purchase for guests and crew. Please support the local vendors/community.
10) If you wish to drop out of the race or officially end your timed race it is mandatory that you tell the race director or race official directly. This is a rule to ensure the safety of all runners. If you leave without telling anybody that you intend to end your race then it will be grounds for immediate disqualification from your race and potentially a ban from future races with Red Road Racing.
11) This is a NO ALCOHOL and NO DRUG event. What we are trying to do with this event is foster a positive environment for Cahuilla families to be a part of for years to come. Please respect this and do not make this a festival/party atmosphere with drug and alcohol use. Thank you for your understanding.
12) There are no refunds or rollovers allowed for this event. While we understand that life happens and difficult situations ruin your race plans with us, this is a fundraising event that makes it hard to justify spending time organizing this race if we decide to refund all runners who ask for a refund or rollover. Thank you for understanding and please know that your race registration goes to sponsor or fund Native American runners who sign up to do this race. In the event of a wildfire or death in the tribe, the event may be rescheduled or cancelled altogether. Please understand that we will do our best to make sure this event happens.
13) Up to 2 pacers are allowed during the longer races starting at sundown. Pacers will be expected to wear a bib that designates them as pacers. Pacers are allowed to continue pacing their runner for the rest of the event. Pacers shall not physically assist the racer in any way other than typical pacing duties.
